Shelby LaDue Delivers Clutch Hit for Spartans

LaDue's hit gave the Somers softball team a 1-0 victory in the first round of the state tournament.

The softball team defeated Old Lyme 1-0 in the Class S state tournament on a clutch double by Shelby LaDue.

In the third inning, Kylen O'Hearn reached on an infield single, advanced on a passed ball and scored on the double by LaDue.  

LaDue was 2-for-2 on the day with a walk for No. 5 Somers (17-4).

JoJo Meunier pitched the shut out, giving up only two hits and four walks. She had 14 strike outs.  

Sammy Yukanut was the losing pitcher for No. 28 Old Lyme (8-12), allowing four hits and two walks. She had seven strike outs.

Somers hosts No. 12 Morgan (14-7) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Class M

No. 9 Ellington (17-4) defeated No. 24 Career Magnet 6-1 on Tuesday. Career Magnet finishes the season 10-11. The Knights will travel to No. 9 Granby (15-2) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
