Rise Above to Hold Welcome Freshmen Bonfire

The event for Ellington High School incoming freshmen, sponsored by the community student group and the Ellington Parks & Recreation Department, will be held on Thursday evening.

On Thursday evening, Rise Above and the will be hosting a free welcome freshmen bonfire.

The bonfire will take place from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at and will also include music, snacks, volleyball and other outdoor games.

The event is only open to freshmen only and organizers ask that attendees consider carpooling to reduce traffic.

"This will be a fun night for incoming freshmen to get together with Rise Above members to kick off the school year," Rise Above Advisor Kathy Larew said.

For those unfamiliar with Rise Above, it is a community based student leadership group offering high school students the opportunity to learn and apply leadership skills by hosting a variety of events for the school and community. 

Students who are interested in joining Rise Above are invited to attend the group's first meeting on Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room of the .
