Opening Knight Players Sent Off to Scotland

The Ellington High School drama troupe had a going away picnic and then got on the bus to head go the airport, with the ultimate destination of Scotland.

There was a lot of excitement, some nerves, and some nervous excitement as the Opening Knight Players got ready to .

The drama troupe was supposed to have a picnic in the school courtyard, but the weather forced the festivities into the gym. The grill was fired up just outside the school - and under a tent - and the burgers and dogs were grilled up.

Salad, chips, watermelon and other goodies - as well as desserts - accompanied the hot dogs and hamburgers. The students and families all ate together, shot a few hoops, and then got ready to go.

The bags had already been organized in the auditorium and after eating, English teacher and Drama advisor William Prenetta gathered everyone back there to talk about last minute items and answer questions.

As it turned out, the fundraising efforts by the group were so successful, a few extra surprises were added for the trip.

After that, it was time to go out to the bus. There was much hugging, and some tears, as the students prepared for their trip. Once the bags were loaded, a group photo was taken, there was more hugging - including special hugs for Bob Williams, the technical director who cannot go on the trip due to a surgery.

Then the group was off, escorted out of town by the 's ladder truck.
