Lone Goal Pushes Enfield Field Hockey Past Somers

Meg Evans netted the game's only goal in Enfield's 1-0 victory Thursday.

A late first-half goal by Meg Evans proved to be the only score of the afternoon, as Enfield defeated visiting Somers 1-0 in NCCC field hockey action Thursday.

Evans scored with 4:32 remaining in the opening half, assisted by Jenna Clavette. 

Both teams had several good scoring chances, but were repeatedly turned away by goalkeepers Maddie LaRusso of Enfield and Jenna Jablonski of Somers.

"The kids played tough, we put on offensive pressure and our defense put a vise on it," legendary Enfield head coach Cookie Bromage said.

LaRusso earned the shutout with seven saves, while Jablonski was a workhorse for the Spartans, turning aside 20 shots.

Enfield (2-3-0-1) hosts Glastonbury Monday at 3:45 p.m., while Somers (3-3) entertains Woodstock Academy Saturday at 11 a.m.
