Local Teams See Mixed Results

Several teams from Ellington and Somers were in action on Tuesday, with some winning and some losing.

The girls' soccer team fell 6-2 at home against Suffield on Tuesday.

Ellington coach Rich Dyjak said that while the score looks lopsided, it doesn’t tell the whole story.

“It was a little better than that,” he said. “Even (Suffield coach) Dave Sullivan said it didn’t play like a 6-2 game. We didn’t play that badly. It was just unfortunate that we couldn’t stop them from putting the ball in the net.”

The Knights, who trailed 3-0 at the half, caught Suffield at a bad time. The Wildcats on Friday – their first loss since the second round of the Class M state tournament in 2008.

Dyjak says that Suffield is a good, young team that will be a tough opponent in the North Central Connecticut Conference. The two teams won’t meet again in the regular season, so if they do meet, it will be in the tournament.
