Local Students Graduate from Loomis Chaffee

Several students from Ellington and Somers graduated from the Windsor institution.

The following students were among the 218 graduates from the Loomis Chaffee Class of 2012. The school's 96th Commencement Ceremony was held on June 8.

More than 1,200 attendees tuned in to Commencement speaker and businessman William Bissell, Loomis Class of 1984, managing director of one of India's most successful retail companies Fabindia Overseas Pvt. Ltd. Bissell is the co-founder of The Fabindia School, which strives to "emulate Loomis' commitment to encourage students to be true to their own best selves."

Bissell asked the graduates to lead the vanguard in reimagining a new approach to life, business, and social interactions.

Erin Currey, of Ellington, was inducted into the Cum Laude Society and awarded Science Department Honors and Mathematics Department Honors. She was a staff member of the student newspaper, the Log, and a member of the Student Council. She was a member of the Girls Varsity Golf team, and as co-captain of the Girls Varsity Volleyball team, she was named Western New England All-Star and was awarded the Coaches' Award. She will matriculate at Wake Forest University.

Shannon Hearn, of Ellington, received English Department Honors, was Secretary/Treasurer of the Student Council, and was a staff member for the student newspaper, the Log. She was a member of the LC Conservatives club, the Model United Nations team, and the Pelican Service Organization. She also was a part of Dance Company and Dance Revue and participated in "Anything Goes," "The Wiz," and the Spring One-Act Festival. She will matriculate at Salve Regina University.

Nicholas Roberge, of Ellington, will matriculate at the University of Connecticut.

Alexander Shirley, of Somers, received Honorable Mention Recognition for Yale Model United Nations. He was a staff member for the student newspaper, the Log, and played Mr. Hariman F. Spritzer/Brad in "Hairspray." He was also a member of the Boys Varsity Cross Country team. He will matriculate at American University.

Bradley White, of Ellington, was a member of the Boys Varsity Golf team and received the Coaches' Award. He will matriculate at the College of the Holy Cross.

Located in Windsor, Connecticut, The Loomis Chaffee School is a co-educational boarding and day school of 680 students from 28 states and 35 countries. The Loomis Chaffee School was chartered in 1874 by five siblings who had lost all their children and selflessly determined to found a school as a gift to the children of others. Since it opened its doors in 1914, the school has offered educational opportunities for boys and girls regardless of religious or political beliefs, national origin or financial resources. Academically vigorous, the school promotes active learning and close faculty-student bonds within a respectful and civil community.
