Ellington-Somers One Win Away From Perfect Season

The Knights defeated Housatonic-Wamogo on Saturday and now, only Coventry stands in the way.

Falls Village is a long way from home for the Ellington-Somers football team, but the long ride did not keep the Knights from showing why they are undefeated and one of the stingiest teams in the state.

The Knights knocked off host Housatonic-Wamogo 28-6 on Saturday.

Ellington-Somers rode the arm of quarterback Bryan Rider - who threw three touchdown passes - and the running of Mitch DiResta - who had 84 yards - to defeat the Mountaineers.

Diresta also chipped in with two interceptions to stop Housatonic-Wamogo drives. Ellington-Somers' defense forced four turnovers in the game. Leading tacklers for Ellington-Somers were Zach Paquette and Sean Tynan with 11 stops each. The win moved Ellington-Somers to 9-0 on the season.

There won't be much time to celebrate this win, however. On Thanksgiving, Ellington-Somers travels to Coventry to take on the undefeated Coventry-Windham Tech Patriots. The winner of this game will be the Pequot League Uncas Division Champion.
