Ellington-Somers Football Welcomes New Football Coach

Sean Byrne will be taking over for team-founder Keith Tautkus.

This fall, the Ellington-Somers football team will have a new coach patrolling the sidelines.

Sean Byrne, who is a social studies teacher at Ellington High School, will take over for Keith Tautkus, who started the program in 2000.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to follow in coach Tautkus’ footsteps,” he said. “I hope to continue the process of developing the Ellington-Somers into a model program.”

Byrne has been a teacher and assistant coach at the school since 2005, and served as the offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2012.

This is his first head-coaching job, and Byrne has admitted that it is a bit overwhelming at the moment, but he is very excited about the position.

And he has the advantage of already knowing the players and the system. He says that there is a lot of talent coming back next year and that the team will hold its own.

Byrne said that Tautkus is still involved and has been a great resource.

Prior to coming to Ellington, Byrne was a teacher and assistant coach at Ansonia High School where the team won two Class S state championships.

Byrne lives in Ellington with his wife, Nicole, and their daughter, Molly.
