Ellington Holds Off Late Somers Rally

The Knights baseball team had a comfortable lead until the Spartans made it interesting in the final inning.

The baseball team held off a late inning rally to defeat 7-6 on Friday.

The Knights scored six runs in the fourth inning - with the help of three Somers errors - to break a 1-1 tie and  jump out to a big lead.

The Spartans wouldn't go quietly however, scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Walks to Adam Guerrette, Jonathan Merrick, and Ryan Bartolf, a base hit by Justin Liquori, a walk to Joshua Fredette, a sacrifice fly by Jake Alvaro, and a two-run double by Nathan Czelazewicz brought Somers back within one before Czelazewicz was stranded on second to end the game.

Kevin Dwire had two hits for Ellington and Dustin Mocadlo reached base in three of his four at bats and scored two runs.

Somers pitchers recorded eight strikeouts and Ellington pitchers had seven strikeouts.

Ellington (4-2) hosts Coventry on Monday and Somers (2-3) hosts SMSA the same day.
