Trick or Treating for a Good Cause

The town of Somers will celebrate Halloween to benefit the emergency fund and food pantries.

This Halloween, why not start your trick or treating a few hours earlier?

The Town of Somers staff will be in costume all day on Halloween, distributing treats to “Trick or Treaters” at the and buildings.

Not only will this be a fun way for you and or your children to get in the Halloween mood… it will be the kick off to the beginning of the annual town wide holiday programs for those in need.

Somers employees feel this will be a fun and beneficial way to help raise awareness of the town programs. Every trick or treater will be “treated” to a Halloween candy from each office they visit. We ask that in return, instead of tricks, the treaters bring a monetary donation for the town emergency fund, and/or a non-perishable food item for the annual holiday food drive.

Donations to the Emergency Fund, a fund that is used to purchase fuel and food for needy Somers families, are accepted all year. But, the greatest need for those donations is right around the corner.

State and Federal cuts to social services programs such as food stamps, fuel assistance and social security have had a drastic effect on many Somers residents.

The Town of Somers Emergency Fund provides those in need with fuel, food vouchers, Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets and presents for children through the “Adopt-A-Family” program.

So, get your costumes on, bring your candy bags and join us for a day of fun!

Not only will you get a head start on that candy collecting.. you’ll be helping your fellow Somers residents enjoy a happy holiday season in a warm home.

The Somers Town Hall is located at 600 Main Street and the Somers Senior Center is at 19 Battle Street.

Halloween hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

For further information, you may contact the Town Hall at 763-8201 or the Senior Center at 763-4379.
