Somers Dual Primary Results

Somers supported U.S. Rep. Chris Murphy as the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate, Linda McMahon for the Republican Senate candidate, as well as Republican Paul Formica to face off against U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney for the Second Congressional District race.

Somers voters headed to the polls Tuesday in a hotly contested race for the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Although publicity has been high, voter turnout was low, according to Registrar of Voters (D) JoAnn Hornyak.

"It's been very slow," said Hornyak, who reported a 16.6 percent turnout at approximately 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening. "We've had 491 voters," said Hornyak.

With moderators David McCaffrey (R) and Linda Abbott (D), as well as election official Norma Meyer, overseeing the process, results were tallied as follows:

Republican Senate Race:

Linda McMahon - 321
Christopher Shays - 72

Republican Second District Congressional Race:

Paul Formica - 251
Daria Novak - 107

Democrat Senate Race:

Christopher Murphy - 101
Susan Bysiewicz - 89
