The below posting is a press release.

WILLIMANTIC — U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) will hold a roundtable discussion today, Oct. 22, at 3:30 p.m., with students at Eastern Connecticut State University about the need to reduce the cost of college and his plans to introduce legislation that will make college more affordable by prioritizing innovation and holding schools accountable for meeting minimum standards.

Over the last 20 years, the cost of college has risen by a whopping 300 percent, putting a degree out of reach for thousands of students across Connecticut. Murphy will meet with students and administrators to discuss his plans for this legislation and receive input to ensure the bill will fit their needs.

On Oct. 16, Murphy reacted to the Senate's reopening of the federal government and temporarily increasing the government’s statutory borrowing authority.

"This is a massive relief for tens of thousands of families and businesses in Connecticut and millions more across the country," Murphy said.

"The bipartisan compromise reached in the Senate today will send federal employees back to work and restart the critical services that veterans, seniors, small business owners, and countless others rely on every day from the federal government.
