Organization That Built Home for USMC Greg Caron Thanks Ellington For Its Support

Building Homes for Heroes issued a certificate to the Town of Ellington for its role in waiving certain pre-requisite fees needed for building projects.

The nonprofit organization that built a new, mortgage-free home for an Ellington Marine who lost both legs in 2011 while serving in Afghanistan formally thanked the Town of Ellington for its support.

Building Homes for Heroes issued a framed certificate to the town, which First Selectman Maurice Blanchette presented during the Board of Selectmen meeting on Monday.

Earlier this year the board had waived roughly $3,400 in building fees and costs typically associated with new construction projects, Blanchette said.

"We were happy to do it and we felt that the citizen’s of Ellington would approve of that," Blanchette told Patch.

According to the certificate, Building Homes For Heroes thanks the Town of Ellington for "exemplary support and assistance to wounded service men and women."

"Your compassion and hospitality were displayed when you ensured the fulfillment of a dream of one of our nation's heroes," the certificate stated.

Dozens of volunteers who came together to construct the new Abbott Road home were thanked repeatedly by the organization and the 27-year-old Marine, who now lives in the home with his wife, Nina.

Here's our story and photos of the homecoming last month.
