Ssomers Republican Annual Picnic & Caucus

The Somers Republican Town Committee invites all registered Somers Republicans to its Annual Picnic and Caucus on July 20th, 2011.  The event will be held at the Pavilion on the Somers Field Road Recreation Center. Food goes on the grill at 5:30 p.m. until approximately 7 pm. The Caucus immediately follows, so even if you cannot make it before 7 p.m., you can and should still come to vote!

It’s a chance to celebrate the accomplishments in the town over the last two years and to learn and provide thoughts on what is planned for the next two year cycle. And there is a lot to celebrate!

The long-awaited Somersville Streetscape project is nearing completion. There is a new ambulance in town. Our roads were kept clear throughout one of the worst winters on record.

The town is “going green”, using solar power to energize its public works building and soon even more municipal facilities.  The senior center has been redecorated and energized. Many of our town roads are being repaired, and the town taxes are fair, and stable.

The caucus is held to endorse Republican candidates for this year’s November municipal election. The following positions will appear on the town ballot and are to be considered: 1st Selectman, Selectman, two Board of Finance members, two Board of Education members, Board of Assessors, two Library Trustees, and two Constables. The caucus will immediately follow the picnic and is expected to begin on or about 7 pm.

All Somers Republicans are urged to attend. We would love to have you attend both events, but the caucus is very important. If residents cannot make the picnic, they are urged to come by and vote in the caucus. Your opinions about the future of Somers are important, and valued. For further information, please contact Mike Bushior, Picnic Chairman, at (860) 749-3937; David Olsen, RTC Vice-Chair, at (860) 749-9422; or David Reed, RTC Chairman.

A small donation will be requested to offset the cost of the picnic food.
