Ellington Voters to Decide on Budget at Tuesday Referendum

This referendum, and all future ones, will be held near the Ellington High School back entrance, rather than the gymnasium.

Ellington voters will be deciding on the next fiscal year's budget in a slightly different spot than usual next Tuesday.

The 2013-14 budget referendum will be held May 21 at Ellington High School from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The proposed budget is $50,180,837.

While voting will still be conducted at the high school, the actual polling location has changed from the gymnasium to the back entrance where the auditorium is located.

"All referendums will be held here from now on, while state and local elections held in November will be in the gymnasium," Registrar of Voters Wanda DeLand said. "There has been concern in years past that referendums take place while school is in session, and this has always been a security issue. The back entrance will not allow access to areas where the student body is, and therefore is a much safer location."
