Ellington Senior Center on Track to Open Jan. 1

The new senior center facility, across from Ellington High School, will be much larger than the current building.

Ellington’s new Senior Center on Maple Street is on track to open to the public on Jan. 1.

Building Official Peter Williams said the construction at the new building, across from Ellington High School, is proceeding on schedule.

The new senior center will be substantially larger than the current one on Church Street.

The town is spending up to $2.9 million on the entire project, after voters approved the new senior center building in a referendum in 2012. Initially the project was expected to cost $2.5 million, however the town voted again in early 2013 to add an addition $400,000 to the project.
