Ellington Seeking Bids for Crystal Lake School Renovation

The town also is renovating a section of Windermere in a joint project that is expected to cost, in total, around $21 million.

Over a year after it was approved at referendum, the town of Ellington is moving into the construction phase of a plan to expand and renovate Crystal Lake and Windermere schools.

The town has posted on its website an invitation to bid for the first phases of both school projects, giving construction companies until Jan. 8 to submit proposals.

First Selectman Maurice Blanchette said the town will review the bids after the cutoff date and make a selection based on factors including cost and the company's history. After that, it will award the bid to the construction firm.

The company that Ellington selects must file a performance bond, a labor and materials bond and a certificate of insurance.

Ellington voters approved 1,358-554 in a referendum in 2012 to expand Crystal Lake School and to create additional space at Windermere.

The project is expected to cost just over $21 million.
