Area Towns Qualify for Recycling Rebates

CRRA handing out out nearly $10,000 to Vernon for recycling efforts.

As part of the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority's Mid-Connecticut Project recycling initiative, 64 towns will be receiving $400,000 worth of recycling rebates.

The CRRA board of directors released the figures on Thursday. The awards collectively represent about $5 for each ton of recyclables delivered to the CRRA during the fiscal year that ended in June.

The rebate cycle is dependent on the commodities markets. If they generate more money than the CRRA needs, rebates are distributed to town participating in the Mid-Connecticut initiative.

Here is a sampling of the rebates:

Vernon, with a population of about 30,000, recycled 1,925 tons and is receiving $9,628.
