Troop C to Conduct Enhanced Motor Vehicle Enforcement

Connecticut State Police troopers will step up patrols during the evenings of July 3-7.

Troop C Press Release:

In preparation for the Fourth of July Holiday, troopers from Connecticut State Police Troop C/Tolland will conduct grant-funded DWI roving patrols during the late evening hours of July 3, 2012 through July 7, 2012. In addition, a DWI Spot Check will be staffed at the intersection of Route 190 and Shaker Road in Somers. This DWI enforcement project will primarily consist of Troop C personnel detecting and apprehending intoxicated drivers.

Lieutenant John Albanese would also like to advise motorists that in addition to DWI enforcement, troopers under his command will also actively enforce all of Connecticut’s motor vehicle laws. This will include speeding, illegal use of hand-held devices, seatbelt violations, and aggressive driving.

Additional special enforcement projects will take place on June 29th and July 6th.  The efforts will be concentrated in the towns of Tolland, Ellington, Stafford, Somers, Mansfield, Willington, Union, and Ashford as well as the limited access highway on I-84 from Vernon to the Massachusetts state line.

Aggressive driving, such as driving unreasonably close to other vehicles and driving at excessive speeds, combined with failing to utilize safety restraints claims the lives of motorists on Connecticut roadways every year. Troopers will continue to utilize marked and unmarked patrol vehicles, as well as other resources at their disposal to identify operators that violate these laws.
