Transfers Announced Within Connecticut State Police Ranks

The barracks in Hartford and Tolland will be affected by the changes.

Change is coming to local state police barracks.

Trooper transfers between barracks and state police operations are part of routine business, Lt. J. Paul Vance said Tuesday. However, the pending changes that will take effect at the end of the month, and that were announced last week, are the first for state Department of Public Safety Commissioner James M. Thomas and State Police Commander Col. Danny R. Stebbins. Both were appointed by new Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

Of the changes, three affect the Troop C barracks in Tolland and four affect the Troop H barracks in Hartford.

In Tolland, Troopers Kevin Mulry and Craig Jones and Trooper First Class Scott Leonard will be reassigned. The officers have been working on temporary duty for the past few years at the state police academy in Meriden. Mulry and Jones will remain at the academy as instructors. Leonard, who has also served as an Ellington Resident State Trooper, will be assigned to the governor’s security force, Vance said.

In Hartford, Trooper Timothy Lehane will be assigned to the academy, Sgt. Shawn Corey will move to field operations and Trooper Steven Orlowski will join Leonard on the governor’s security detail.

Trooper John Wilson will transfer from the Bethany barracks to the Hartford barracks.

Vance said the staff changes are the result of the most recent graduating class from the academy preparing to join the ranks as fully certified troopers. The graduates have been training in the field under the supervision of veteran troopers, the last segment of their training, Vance said.
