The South Windsor teen charged with negligent homicide pleaded not guilty Wednesday for his alleged involvement in a May 2012 motor vehicle accident in Ellington in which a 61-year-old Enfield man died.

Eighteen-year-old Andrew Kebalo, of 47 Deming St., appeared in Rockville Superior Court on Wednesday and entered his plea.

Kebalo was charged with negligent homicide and failure to yield the right of way by state police, who did not directly identify Kebalo in their records because he was 17 at the time of the accident.

State law provides that 17-year-olds are presumed to be eligible for youthful offender status in the judicial system, the Journal Inquirer reported. But state judicial records reveal that Kebalo, who is now 18, was charged on May 7.

Robert Kegler, who was riding his motorcycle on Maple Street in Ellington on May 21, 2012, died from injuries he sustained when he was involved in the three-vehicle accident.

According to court officials, Kebalo’s court case has been continued until July 17 for a pre-trial hearing.
