State Police: Ellington Man Threatened Woman With a Gun

State Police charged a 50-year-old man with threatening a 44-year-old woman and then troopers as they drove him to the barracks in Tolland.

John Patrick Collins could be in a boatload of trouble.

The Ellington man was arrested and charged Sunday evening with allegedly threatening a woman with a gun and then continuing to say threatening remarks, this time to two troopers as they drove Collins to the barracks, according to police documents.

Troopers were called to Collins' residence at 1 Abbott Rd., Apt. 68, at just before 7 p.m. Sunday night after a woman called Emergency 911 and said that Collins' was holding her against her will and had threatened her with a gun, according to police.

When police arrived the woman told them that Collins has a history of abusive behavior when he is intoxicated, according to police documents. When police entered his apartment, they saw that Collins was intoxicated but did not find a weapon.

Troopers took Collins, 50, into custody and charged with second-degree unlawful restraint, disorderly conduct and threatening, according to a police news release.

While being transported to the Tolland State Police barracks, Collins continued to threaten the two troopers who were escorting him to the troop. He was charged with an additional count of threatening.

Collins is schedule to appear in Tolland County Superior Court in Rockville on April 14. His bond was not listed on the arrest report.
