A 57-year-old Somers man was killed Monday afternoon while working at a parking lot construction site at Windsor Locks Public Safety Complex.
Joel Dehm, of Turnpike Road, was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital after being transported there by LifeStar helicopter, Police Capt. Chester DeGray said. The incident is being investigated as an industrial accident, DeGray said.
Police received a 911 call at 4:14 p.m. about a person being down at the site. Police officers gave him aid until Windsor Locks firefighters and the East Windsor Ambulance arrived, DeGray said.
Dehm was apparently caught between the tailgate and the body of a dump truck. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been called to investigate how the accident happened.
Dehm worked for Galasso Materials in East Granby. Worked resumed at the site Wednesday morning, DeGray said.
The town is having the complex’s parking lot repaved and the police department is also receiving a secured impound lot as part of the project.
