Somers Man Charged After Hit and Run Accident

Shaun Michael Legare is facing multiple charges after hitting an Ellington man on Wednesday.

Both the pedestrian who was and the man who hit him have been identified as local men.

The pedestrian has been identified as Donald S. Akerley, 74, who lives in the Cider Mill Heights condominiums on Maple Street in Ellington. Akerley was transported by LifeStar helicopter after .

A spokeswoman for Hartford Hospital said that as of 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Akerley was stable in the emergency room and that they were just waiting for a bed for him.

Police identified the man who hit Akerley as Shaun Michael Legare, 23, of 129 Springfield Road in Somers.

After fleeing the scene, Legare was located and arrested a short time later. He was transported to Troop C in Tolland where he was processed for numerous motor vehicle and criminal charges. He was held on a $50,000 bond.
