Police Nab Three After Robbery at Vernon Valero

The case is still being investigated, police said.

Three men have been charged with first-degree robbery and other crimes in connection with a Saturday night hold-up at the Valero station and Fas Mart convenience store on Route 83, police said on Sunday morning. 

Police tracked the men down in a neighborhood up the road after they fled the store, according to an incident report. 

Police received a call at 9:27 p.m. reporting an armed robbery inside the store at 506 Talcottville Rd., the local address for the Route 83 establishment.  

Officers arrived within a minute and were told that two men wearing masks had displayed a knife and robbed the clerk, according to a news release. They fled on foot with the cash box, police said. 

Responding officers found a man later identified as Kyle Cormier, in the area near the incident and it was determined that Cormier was involved in the robbery, according to a news release. 

A canine unit led by police dog Narko conducted a search of the area. The track and other evidence led officers to a home on Kenneth Drive where two other suspects were apprehended, according to a news release. 

The suspects had approached a homeowner there and asked to use the phone, police said. The suspects had no previous connection to the Kenneth Drive home and appear to have chosen it at random. according to a news release. 

Police said those arrested were: 

• Ryan Grzesiak, 19, of 410 Beelzebub Rd., South Windsor. Police said he has been charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of heroin. His bond was set at $250,000, police said. 

• Kyle Cormer, 21, of 54 Oak St., South Windsor. Police said he has been charged with first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of heroin. His bond was set at $100,000, police said. 

• Gregory Canepa, 20, of 21 Phelps Rd., East Windsor. Police said his charges are first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, narcotics possession and possession of heroin paraphernalia. Police said his bond was set at $150,000. 

The case remains under investigation and police were searching the area on Sunday for move evidence. 

A store manager said no one was hurt and it the store was open as usual on Sunday. Spirits among staff members were upbeat at the store on Sunday afternoon.
