The incident was in September in Vernon, police said.

An Ellington man is facing four serious motor vehicle charges after an incident between he and two scooter drivers on Route 30 in September, Vernon police said.

The incident took place on Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. near the Shops at 30 plaza, known locally as 435 Hartford Turnpike.

Kenneth Porter, 64, of 79A Hopkins Rd., Ellington was traveling west on the road in his Jeep Wrangler when he came up on a pair of scooters, according to an incident report.

Porter honked his horn at the two scooters, then drove closer and pushed them forward with the vehicle, according to an incident report. The scooters then crashed, police said.

Porter was charged on an outstanding warrant when he surrendered to Vernon police on Friday. He was charged with with Reckless Driving, evading responsibility, illegal operation of a motor vehicle-harassment, and second-degree false statement.

Vernon police said he initially denied his involvement in the incident, but witnesses had come forward.

Porter posted a $7,500 bond and is due in court on Oct. 15, police said.
