Man Cuts Throat in Tolland Big Y

Willington resident Jason Haberman inflicted the injury on himself while in the custody of store security.

Police have charged Willington resident Jason Haberman, 40, with larceny and criminal trespassing after he allegedly shoplifted at the Tolland Big Y and slit his own throat while in the custody of store security, according to police.

Officers at Troop C said that a trooper initially responded to the Big Y on Monday for a report of shoplifting. Haberman injured himself while security waited for the trooper to arrive, according to police.

Tolland Fire Department responders transported Haberman to Rockville General Hospital, police said. Tolland Fire Chief and Public Safety Director said that LifeStar was requested, but was not available.

Haberman is expected to make a full recovery, according to Troop C.

Haberman is due in Rockville Superior Court Tuesday morning, police report.
