According to the Somers Fire Department, a middle-aged man and his dog were rescued from a burning Hall Hill Road home early on Friday morning.
Lt. Glen Reynolds said that the call came in at 2:05 a.m. and was made by the homeowner. Chief Gary Schiessl was first on scene at 573 Hall Hill Rd. and saw a glow on the right side of the home in what appeared to be the kitchen.
Reynolds said that the fire was mostly contained to the kitchen but that the house was full of smoke. The man was found in an upstairs bedroom and was rescued by the firefighters. His dog was also rescued.
The man was conscious, but was overcome by smoke so he was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital for treatment. His dog is at Somers Animal Control and will remain there until the man is released from the hospital.
The fire marshal and building inspector were called in and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Somers received mutual aid at the scene from Shaker Pines, Ellington, East Longmeadow and Hampden. West Stafford covered the station.
