Items From Ellington Burglary Found on Vernon Burglary Suspects

Police wouldn't say where the items came from, saying they are still working with state police on the case.

Vernon Police have arrested two people for breaking into a residential home.

At 11:51 a.m. on Thursday, police received a 911 call from a West Street resident, who reported that two people just tried to break into her home, according to a news release. The resident gave the police dispatcher the vehicle description and a license plate, police said. 

The resident told police that a female was driving the car and a male was a passenger, according to a news release.

Several officers went to the area and one officer observed the suspect vehicle driving on Vernon Avenue, near Brooklyn Street, and stopped the car - a red, four-door 2003 Kia Spectrum.

The driver was identified as Jacqueline Melcher, 26, and the passenger Bryan Connors, 29. Both Melcher and Connors are from Springfield, MA, police said.

Vernon detectives said they found items in the car believed to be from a recent Ellington burglary. They did not name the Ellington location, saying they are still working with state police on the case.

Melcher and Connors were arrested by Vernon Police. 

Connors has an extensive criminal history, including prior burglary convictions in both Connecticut and Massachusetts, police said.

Melcher is being held on a $50,000 bond and Connors is being held on a $150,000 bond, police said.

Both were charged with second-degree attempted burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary. Connors wasl also charged with posession of burglary tools and third-degree criminal mischief. 

Police are looking into whether Melcher and Connors are connected to other burglaries in the area.

More information concerning the charges will be forthcoming, police said.
