In Memoriam: Officer Brian Aselton

Today is 14th anniversary of the passing of East Hartford police officer, a former South Windsor resident.

Today is the 14th anniversary that East Hartford police officer Brian Aselton, a South Windsor High graduate, was killed in the line of duty. 

Aselton (South Windsor High ‘90) was shot while responding to a noise complaint at an apartment complex. He walked in on a robbery in progress, according to a brianaselton.org. Aselton was 26 years old.

The person who shot Aselton was convicted of murder in 2003 and is serving a life sentence, according to the Web site.

Aselton was laid to rest at Wapping Cemetery in South Windsor.

"It is estimated that 10,000 people, comprised of family members, friends, police officers, firefighters, ambulance personnel, military personnel, and civilians, attended the funeral," according to brianaselton.org.

An annual 5K memorial run is held in his memory and a scholarship fund is also set up in his honor. The Aselton Memorial Fitness Center as well as a section of I-84 through East Hartford are also named for him.
