Firefighters Respond to Barn Fire

The Somers Fire Department was called to barn fire on Friday evening.

At 6:10 p.m. on Friday, the was called to a barn fire on Pioneer Heights Road. Chief Gary Schiessl said that upon arrival of the first officer, the barn was already fully involved.

Schiessl said that the water supply was an issue as there are no hydrants in that area of town. Because of that, additional tankers were called for to move water in approximately a five-mile loop.

Due to the fact that there was a large amount of hay in the barn, it became an extended operation to extinguish all of the fire, Schiessl said.
