Original Story: March 6, 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters from several departments chipped in to make quick work of a potentially complicated blaze at a Burbank Road home Sunday night.

The fire broke out in a ranch home at 68 Burbank Road just before 7 p.m., Ellington Fire Chief Michael Varney said. Rain and fog made visibility slight, Varney said, but crews from the Crystal Lake, which was the primary department on the scene, Ellington, Somers and Tolland departments converged on the scene quickly,

Varney estimated that it took less than 30 minutes to contain the fire to part of the home.  He said he could not guess the extent of the damage.

No injuries were reported.

A potentially major complication with any fire in the area is the absence of hydrants. Backup tankers had to be called to the scene to ensure there was enough water to put out the fire, Varney said.

He said the cause of the fire will be investigated tonight and tomorrow.  The home is located about a quarter-mile from the Burbank Road-Route 140 intersection in the Crystal Lake area of town, Varney said.
