Ellington Volunteer Fire Department Carnival Right Around the Corner

The department gathered on Wednesday to assemble cake boxes, one of the sure signs the carnival is approaching rapidly.

School is right around the corner and fall is in the air, which can only mean that it's almost time for the Carnival.

The carnival will run from Sept. 6 through Sept. 8 at and there will be a parade at 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 8. The carnival has been a tradition for over 80 years and features amusement rides for adults and children, games of skill and games of chance, food, and a raffle.

One of the most popular booths at the carnival is the cake booth. In order to make sure that the booth is stocked, the fire department is asking residents to make cakes, cookies, brownies, etc.

If you are interested in making a cake or pastry item, you can deliver it to the cake booth at the fair, or bring it to the firehouse on Main Street. If you are unable to deliver it, you are asked to call 860-870-3190 and leave a message. The department will then send someone to pick the cake up.

If you are interested in making more than one cake, you can call the same number or contact any Ellington firefighter and additional boxes will be delivered to you.

If a resident would prefer not to make a cake, or cannot make a cake, he or she can make a monetary donation using the envelope enclosed in the cake box.

There will also be a raffle where 10 prizes will be awarded. The top prize is a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck, second prize is a $650 gift certificate redeemable at Superior Energy, and third prize is a $550 gift certificate redeemable at Homestead Fuel.

There are only 1,200 tickets and they can be purchased for $20 each from any firefighter.
