Nov. 21

Dania Shoaib, 18, and Swaibah Shoaib, 20, both of 385 Somers Rd. in Ellington, were arrested after the two parties engaged in a verbal argument that subsequently turned int3o a physical confrontation. The women were subsequently taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. They were later released on bond and were scheduled for a court appearance at Rockville Superior Court on Nov. 23. 

John Gladu, 48, of 4 Rye Hill Cir. in Somers, was clocked on radar traveling westbound on Route 190 in Stafford at 60 mph in posted 45 mph zone. After the vehicle was stopped, Gladu was found to have two open and empty beer cans inside the vehicle and one still cold one half gone. He was tested and arrested for DWI. Gladu was charged with speeding: trucks and operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol.

Nov. 22

Paul J. Mercier, 23, of 16 Meadow Ln. in Somers, was stopped in a motor vehicle stop on Brace Road in Somers. During the course of the stop, Mercier was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. He was subjected to a series of field sobriety tests that he failed. At that time, he was arrested and was charged with operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs/alcohol and failure to maintain lane. Mercier was released on a $500 non-surety bond and was given a court date of Dec. 10.

Samuel Peter Taylor, 20, of 25 North Main St. in Windsor Locks, was observed driving recklessly on Route 190 in Somers. He was clocked at speeds in excess of 90 mph, going through a red light, and also crossing the center line into the opposite lane of travel, almost striking another vehicle head on. Taylor initially failed to stop when troopers tried to stop him. Upon being arrested, he was found to be in possession of marijuana and a smoking pipe. Taylor was issued an infraction for possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia charges. He was charged with insurance coverage fails minimum requirements, reckless driving, disobeying officer signal, failure to drive right/at slow speed, and failure to obey control signal. Taylor was processed at Troop C and released on a $500 non-surety bond with a court date of Dec. 5. 

Nov. 23

Rosa M. Durao, 26, of 24 Hayes Ave. in Ellington, and Christopher Kennedy, 24, of 12 Seymour Rd. in Windsor Locks, were arrested after Kennedy was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Route 140, near Broad Brook Road, in Ellington. Further investigation showed that Kennedy and Durao had active criminal protective orders against each other. Both were taken into custody for those charges. Durao was charged with criminal violation of a restraining order: non-threatening/family and Kennedy was charged with violation of a protective order.

Nov. 25

On Nov. 25, sometime between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., someone entered the Dzen Garden Market located at the five corners, and took an undetermined amount of cash. Witnesses to the event indicated that a vehicle was observed parked on Pinney Street/Route 286 just north of the market. It is believed that the perpetrators left the scene in this vehicle. If anyone observed the vehicle in question or anything suspicious during the timeframe in which the crime occurred, please contact Troop C at 860-896-3200 or the Ellington Resident Trooper’s Office at 860-875-1522.

Nov. 27

A vehicle being stored at a residence on Joel Drive in Ellington was damaged to include scratches and other minor damage. The incident remains under investigation.

A dumpster located at Ellington Middle School was spray-painted with graffiti. The case is under investigation.

Nov. 29

A 67-year-old Ellington man was traveling from Skinner Road and had entered the rotary to travel north on to Pinney Street. A 59-year-old Ellington woman was traveling on Windsorville Road from Vernon. The woman failed to yield the right of way at the rotary to traffic and pulled into the path of the man, resulting in the collision. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Rockville General Hospital for complaint of pain. Both vehicles were towed from the scene with moderate damage. The woman was charged with failure to grant the right of way at a rotary. 

A 17-year-old Florida woman was traveling southbound on Somers Road in Ellington. The woman turned right onto Maple Street and the vehicle spun out on the wet roadway, causing the woman to lose control. The vehicle departed the roadway and struck the metal beam guardrail off the right shoulder. There were no injuries and minor damage was reported. The woman was charged with traveling too fast for conditions.
