Ellington-Somers Police Blotter: May 27-June 2

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police, are accurate as of June 3, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

May 27

A vehicle taking a left turn onto Fairway Drive from Tripp Road in Ellington struck a parked and unoccupied vehicle on the ride side of Fairway Drive. The operator of the vehicle, Johney Pappas, 49, of 5 Fairway Dr., Ellington, left the scene of the accident. He was later located at his residence and issued a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility. 

Scott R Streitweiser, 25, of 133 S Hoop Pole Rd., Guilford, was placed under arrest for second-degree breach of peace after a disturbance was reported at in Ellington. Based on the investigation at the scene, Streitweiser was arrested.

May 28

State police responded to for an assault on a correctional officer. This incident is under investigation and no injuries were sustained.

May 29

State police responded to for a report of weapons found in a cell. This case is currently under investigation.

Lester M Martin, 52, of 27 Aborn Rd., Ellington, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol and unnecessary noise/defective muffler/horn/excess smoke/exhaust after being stopped on Stafford Road in Ellington for a motor vehicle equipment violation.

John P. Powers, 36, of 187 Broad Brook Rd., Enfield, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs after he passed a state police trooper on Hall Hill Road in Somers while not having his seat belt on. When trooper initiated a motor vehicle stop he smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Powers. The trooper performed standardized field sobriety tests and Powers was unable to perform the tests to standard. 

May 30

Between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., two all terrain vehicles were stolen from 259 Somers Rd. (Route 83) in Ellington. The first vehicle is described as a 2001 Honda EX 400. It is yellow with a custom graphic overlay spelling out the word “SKIN” on both sides of the seat. The graphic also displays a woman's face on either side of the tank. This ATV also has a custom aluminum exhaust. The keys were left in the ignition. The second vehicle is a 2003 Honda EX 400. It is red with black graphics. The entire vehicle is in a stock configuration with no modifications. It has new rear tires and the keys were left in the ignition. Police are asking that anyone with information contact Trooper Cloukey at Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland (860-896-3222).

Shannon Morin, 21 of 51 Scott Dr., Vernon, was stopped on Crystal Lake Road (Route 30) northbound at the intersection of Boyer Road and Conklin Road in Stafford when her vehicle was hit by a car being driven by Ashley Gamble, 19, of 98 West Rd., Ellington. Gamble was traveling northbound on Crystal Lake Road when she hit Morin’s vehicle from behind. Morin was transported to Rockville General Hospital by Stafford EMS for non-life threatening injuries. Gamble was transported to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar helicopter for non-life threatening injuries. Both women complained of neck and back pain.

May 31

Daniel B Carpenter, 44, of 47 Marion Ln. Apt. #41, Canterbury, was released from Osborn Correctional Institution and taken into custody by state police on a PRAWN warrant for violation of probation. He was processed and released on a $25,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on June 7.
