Ellington-Somers Police Blotter: July 8-July 14

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police, are accurate as of July 15, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

July 10

A vehicle driven by a 50 year-old Florida woman was stopped on Route 190 in Somers, attempting to make a lefthand turn into a private driveway. A truck-horse trailer combination vehicle, driven by a Wallingford woman, was traveling west on Route 190. The woman driving the horse trailer was unable to slow her vehicle in time before striking the rear end of the other vehicle. Four horses in the trailer at time of the accident were not injured. All three people from the first vehicle, including an 87 year-old man and 90 year-old woman, were transported to an area hospital with complaints of pain. None of the four people in the truck-horse trailer combination vehicle were injured. 

Troopers wre dispatched to a home on Maple Street in Ellington on a larceny complaint. Subsequent investigation revealed that a 4-wheel off road vehicle was stolen between July 9 and July 10 from the back yard of the residence. The case is active.

A vehicle driven by a 21 year-old Somers man was traveling eastbound along route 190 in Somers and as he was negotiating a right turn onto Highland View Drive, he rapidly accelerated causing the vehicle to travel in an uncontrolled manner off the west roadway edge. As the vehicle departed the roadway, it destroyed 72 feet of wooden fence. At the time of the accident, it was undetermined as to the owner of the damaged property. Neither the man or his 18 year-old female passenger were injured. 

July 11

Troopers investigated a late reported burglary into a residence on West Road in Ellington that likely occurred over the night hours of July 9 to July 10. Some items taken have been recovered at a local pawn shop. This case remains under investigation.  

July 12

Brian C. Baldwin, 27, of 138 Town House Rd. in Hampden, Mass., was transported from Bridgeport Correctional Institution to Rockville Superior Court so that an active arrest warrant could be served for an incident that occurred on Sunset Drive in Somers. He was placed under arrest for criminal violation of a protective order. Baldwin was processed and held on a $5,000 bond set by Sgt. Smith. He was then turned back over to the state marshals to be presented to the court.
