Ellington-Somers Police Blotter: Jan. 25-Jan. 31

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police, are accurate as of Feb. 1, 2013. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

Jan. 25

William G. Devereaux, 19, of 132 Green Rd. in Manchester, was taken into custody after an arrest warrant was issued by Rockville Superior Court after an investigation of an incident that had occurred in January at a residence in Ellington. He was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and was processed at Troop C.

A 34-year-old Somers woman was traveling westbound along Main Street in Ellington, and as she approached the intersection with Church Street, she encountered an icy portion of the roadway. At that time, she lost control of the vehicle, causing it to travel onto the town green and strike the Veteran’s Memorial. The collision caused moderate damage to both the vehicle and the memorial. The airbags had deployed, however, the woman was uninjured as a result of the collision. The woman stated that she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision. The vehicle was towed from the scene by JPM at the request of the owner.

Jan. 28

Between the hours of 6:52 p.m. and 6:57 p.m., an unknown white male entered the Big Y Supermarket and stole $215.71 of Enfamil Baby Formula and a Big Y handbasket. The identity of the perpetrator is unknown at this time. 

Robert E. Laperriere, 31, of 19 Seibert Dr. in Terryville, was arrested after a trooper was assigned to investigate a reported one vehicle versus fixed object collision that occurred in the area of 4 West Rd. in Ellington. He had been traveling southbound on Route 83, approximately 30 feet south of Charter Road, when he entered onto the soft shoulder of the southbound travel lane. Laperriere then collided with a utility pole guide wire and a brick wall containing one business signpost prior to coming to a final rest position. He reported minor injuries and was transported to Rockville General Hospital for further treatment and care for injuries sustained as a result of the collision. Laperriere was later released from the hospital and was subjected to an in-custody arrest. He was transported to Troop C where he was processed and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, traveling fast for conditions, and operating a motor vehicle while unregistered. Laperriere was later released on a $500 non-surety bond. 

Jan. 29

Richard R. Doucette, 51, of 14 Crystal St. in Ellington, was arrested after the Ellington Resident State Trooper’s office responded to a call regarding a reported ongoing domestic dispute. Doucette was charged with threatening and disorderly conduct. 

Darrin D. Smith, 46, of 16 Tomoka Ave. Apt. B in Ellington, was placed under arrest during the course of a domestic violence investigation after troopers responded to reports of a verbal altercation. No injuries were reported at the scene. Smith was charged with disorderly conduct/threatening and threatening. Smith was also discovered to be in possession of 11 suspected Soma pills (muscle relaxers) during the course of the domestic violence investigation and was placed under arrest. He was charged with possession of narcotics and failure to keep narcotics only in original container.

Jan. 31

Charles M. Dermott, 41, of 12 Sanford St. in Enfield, was traveling south on Route 83 in Somers when he subsequently drove off the southbound shoulder and struck a cluster of trees at the intersection of Bradley Road. Dermott was arrested for DWI, operating without a license, and making an improper turn. No injuries were reported.
