Ellington-Somers Police Blotter: Jan. 20-Jan. 26

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police, are accurate as of Jan. 27, 2012. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

Jan. 20

Tyler J. Gallant, 21, of 49 Church St. in Windsor Locks, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol and failure to drive in the proper lane after an accident on Springfield Road in Somers. Gallant lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a sharp right turn in the roadway and subsequently crossed over the opposing travel lane and collided with a second vehicle traveling in the same area. There were no injuries reported a s result of the collision. Gallant was subjected to standardized field sobriety tests at the scene, which he failed. He was then placed under arrest and transported to Troop C. Gallant was released on a $500 non-surety bond.

Douglas W. Friday, 44, of 218 Jackson Rd. in Enfield, was traveling westbound on Main Street in Somers by Sunset Drive. He was traveling too fast for conditions and lost control of the vehicle. He struck a DOT sign and damaged sign. There was minor damage done to the vehicle. No one was injured. Friday was arrested for DUI and traveling too fast for roadway conditions. Jan. 21

A 41-year-old Ellington woman was traveling westbound on Frog Hollow Road when she lost control of her vehicle on the snow covered roadway, crossed the eastbound lane, and subsequently struck a tree off the eastbound shoulder of the roadway. There were no injuries and moderate damage was done to the vehicle. The woman was charged with traveling too fast for conditions.

Steven M. Karlowicz, 27, of 111 Snipsic Lake Rd. in Ellington, was traveling east on Route 140 just west of Webster Road in Ellington when he veered off the roadway to the right and subsequently struck several mailboxes. Karlowicz was subsequently arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. No injuries were reported during this incident. 

Troopers were dispatched to Route 140 by Burbank Road in Ellington on a report of a spin out. Subsequent investigation revealed the operator lost control of their vehicle while traveling west on Route 140, slid off the right shoulder of the road and into a ditch where the vehicle became inoperable. The vehicle damaged an STC sign while leaving the roadway. The operator was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions. No injuries were reported.

Jan. 23

Robert A. Sanville, 47, of 97 Webster Rd. in Ellington, came to the Troop C barracks to turn himself in on an active arrest warrant. The warrant was issued on Jan. 6 out of Rockville Superior Court for the charges of sixth-degree larceny, and operating a motor vehicle while suspended. Sanville was processed according to Connecticut State Police policy without incident. Sanville was released on a promise to appear set by the court and has a scheduled court appearance date of Feb. 15. 

A 23-year-old Ellington woman was traveling southbound on Windermere Avenue in Ellington. She veered to the right and then over corrected this error and subsequently rolled off the northbound shoulder. She was transported to Rockville General Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries. Jan. 25

Troopers are investigating an interrupted residential burglary on Webster Road in Ellington.
