Ellington-Somers Police Blotter: Feb. 24-March 1

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police, are accurate as of March 2, 2012. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

Feb. 24

Elijah D. Knybel, 31, of 100 Maple Ridge Dr. in Somers, was charged after he was stopped for the observed violations of failure to maintain lane and speeding. The traffic stop led to the in-custody arrest of Knybel for the additional violation of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond with a court date set for March 5.

Samuel J. Schneider, 23, of 479 Somers Rd. in Ellington, was stopped for a traffic stop on South Road in Somers for observed motor vehicle violations. The traffic stop led to the in-custody arrest of Schneider for the violations of driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, failure to maintain proper lane, and speeding. He was released on a $500 bond with a court date set for March 5.

Lauren E. Savage, 21, of 57 White Rd. in Ellington, was charged when during the course of a motor vehicle stop, she was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Savage was subjected to a series of field sobriety tests that she failed, at which time she was arrested. She was transported to Troop C in Tolland where she was processed according to state police policy and released.

Feb. 26

Troop C is currently investigating the receipt of several threatening hand-written and typed letters that were sent to the . The party responsible expressed their displeasure with the Land Trust’s handling of the McCann property off of Route 190 in Somers. If anyone has any information regarding this incident please contact the at 860-749-4955 or Troop C at 860-896-3200.

Feb. 27

State Police responded to a report of burglaries into commercial vehicles at 4 Industrial Dr. in Ellington. This incident is currently under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact State Trooper Jacob Bissaillon at the , 860-875-1522.

Troopers were dispatched to  on Field Road in Somers for possible items taken from vehicles parked at that business. It is unknown by the complainant if the two vehicles that were entered were locked or unlocked. Items taken consist of dashboard gauges, music CDs, a pair of Oakley sunglasses, and a Kenwood in dash CD player. No serial numbers were provided. The approximate total of the items taken is $5,720. There are no witnesses at this time and this crime occurred overnight from 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m.

Feb. 29

A 67-year-old Stafford Springs woman was driving eastbound on Route 83 when a 46-year-old Stafford Springs man was traveling westbound. The man started to “fish tail” and entered the eastbound lane and struck the soft shoulder and rolled onto its side. The woman swerved to the left to avoid the man and crossed the westbound lane and came to rest against a telephone pole. No injuries were reported. The man was issued a warning for traveling too fast for conditions.  

During the weekend of Feb. 25, an unknown person or persons entered several vehicles at 64 Field Road in Somers. The case is under investigation by the .

March 1

A 40-year-old Somers woman was traveling eastbound on Billings Road near Sunshine Farms Road in Somers. She lost control on a slush and sand covered road, crossed the opposing lane, and struck trees and brush located off the shoulder. The vehicle came to rest in a swamp. No injuries reported from the woman or her 5-year-old female passenger. The woman was found to be in violation of traveling too fast for conditions. 

A 61-year-old Ellington woman was traveling in a northeasterly direction on Crystal Lake Road approximately fifty feet west of the intersection with Hopkins Road in Ellington when the vehicle, which is owned by First Student, Inc., went off the westbound shoulder on the north side of Route 140 and struck a large tree before coming to an uncontrolled position of final rest. No injuries were reported. It was snowing and the roadway was covered with a mixture of snow and ice at the time of the accident. The woman was at fault for traveling too fast for conditions, and was issued a written warning for the same.
