On Tuesday afternoon, an Ellington school van was hit from behind and three people were taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.
According to Lt. Vince Gambacorta from the Ellington Fire Department, the van was attempting to make a left turn onto Maple Street from Route 83 when it was struck from behind.
Two students - who are between the ages of 18 and 20 and are special needs - and an aid were taken to the hospital for complaint of pain. Other passengers, and the driver of the other vehicle, were not transported.
There was very little damage done to the van, but the car sustained quite a bit of front end damage from going under the back of the van.
Superintendent of Schools Stephen Cullinan said that you hope an accident like this never happens, but when it does, that it’s as minor as this.
"It appears that there’s no serious injury to the kids or our staff," he said.
