Vernon came from one of the town's borders and from another. Tolland, Stafford, South Windsor - and departments from all over the state - also came by.
There were bagpipes, the marching band, and a fife and drum corp. Also marching were the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts as clowns tossed candy to the kids along the parade route.
The carnival itself featured the traditional cake booth, bands, rides, and a lot of other fine fair fare.
One unwanted visitor came to at about 8 p.m. on Saturday when lighting began to flash and a few drops of rain fell. Then, the skies opened up, sending the crowds to their cars early.
