According to Somers Fire Chief Gary Schiessl, at approximately 4 p.m. a call came in for a structure fire. Upon arrival, the fire department found the fire in the back "L" portion of the home and began the attack.

There was a working fire coming out the windows, and a little extension into the ceiling area. The firefighters did the initial knock down, did some ventilation, and were waiting for the fire marshal to come.

Schiessl said that there was ammunition in the house so that was a concern.

"It was going off in the fire," he said.

Schiessl said that there was one minor injury to a firefighter, but that the firefighter was not transported to the hospital.

The fire had a pretty good start on the firefighters, Schiessl said, and but the department did a good job with the knock down. It was fortunate that the home was near a good water source - good hydrants.

This is the fourth fire - two houses, a barn, and a church - for a department that normally only has one fire a year.
