Time Sure Does Fly

Today, we are celebrating Ellen's first birthday.

Wow, where has this year gone? It’s hard to believe, but my little girl is one today!

Since my munchkin Ellen’s somewhat on , it’s been quite the journey – and a wonderful one at that!

She is such a good baby and is just a joy. She laughs and smiles all the time, and anything she finds can be made into a toy. She started sleeping through the night at about 2.5 months, and has only had one episode where she got up during the night – and that’s because she was sick.

Ellen has four teeth – and several more just about to come in – and she’s never been fussy or cranky because of them. She’s a tough little cookie. Whenever she gets shots at the doctor, she fusses for about a second, and then is fine. The nurse even complimented her because on the shot that “gets to the tough babies,” she barely noticed.

We’ve decided that she’s probably going to like rollercoasters and rides and everything. She loves playing and rolling around and has no fear at all. We call her a monkey because she likes to climb on everything she can – and she does make monkey noises.

She hasn’t quite started walking yet, but she’s incredibly close to it. She can do it, she just is hesitant to let go with the last hand. She’s very steady though, so much so that we can hold her by one hand and walk with her. Pretty soon, she’ll realize that she doesn’t even need that one hand.

We figure she’s going to look pretty funny when she does start walking – and running – by herself because she’s so tiny. She’s only about 18.5 pounds and is about 27 inches tall. My husband and I are not tall either so it’s not totally shocking that she’s tiny. We just got into the 9 month clothing, and she can still fit quite a bit of the 6 month clothing that we have.

She started pulling herself up and walking along the furniture at about six months, so we thought she might walk early. She didn’t, but she’s still been into everything for a long time. We had to gate off the kitchen and the stairs, and close the doors on the entertainment center. We also removed the glass and iron coffee table. Not baby safe!

Ellen has quite the little personality. She’s very independent and is not scared of anything or anybody. She loves cats and dogs – even big dogs – and will go play with anybody she meets. We’ve never had to deal with stranger anxiety or anything like that. Her new thing is actually jumping from one person’s arms to the next.

She has new tricks that she shows off whenever she can. She loves to clap, high-five, wave, and now, do kisses. She learned how to make her lips the right way when she gives kisses, so now she walks around making the kissy face all day long. It's absolutely adorable.

This year has flown by, and it’s been so much fun to watch Ellen grow and develop and learn. I look forward to many more awesome years with her!
