Fresh Fruit Smoothies Hit the Spot

Take a break from the summer heat with some fresh fruit smoothies.

The temperature seems like it just keeps rising this summer. We've broken into the nineties, and it's definitely time to cool off. During these hot days, sometimes there's nothing better than a nice cold drink, and smoothies are no exception.

Using milk, yogurt, and fresh fruit, you can create a tasty drink perfect for breakfast, or after lunch and dinner. Smoothies are an extremely easy drink to make, and are more than worth the small amount of time it takes to make them.

Fresh Fruit Smoothies

1 1/2  Cup Milk

1 Cup Vanilla Yogurt

1 Cup Strawberries

1 Cup Raspberries

1 Banana, peeled

1-2 Tbsp Honey

First, slice up your strawberries and bananas. Set aside a few slices of strawberries. Place all of your ingredients into a blender and blend them until smooth. Pour out the smoothie mix and serve. Top the smoothies with the remaining strawberry slices.

Like I said earlier, smoothies are very easy to make. The honey serves to sweeten the fruit a bit, especially the raspberries. You may need to add more honey, based on the tastes of your family or friends.

Smoothies are a great option for a quick breakfast, and make a great option for an on-the-go meal for vacation mornings. Try a smoothie as a dessert after a nice grilled meal; the cool fruit flavors are a perfect ending to a meal.

Try and find your favorite fruits at the local farmer's market, and don't be afraid to experiment with different fruits. The base of the smoothie is the milk and yogurt, everything else can be swapped for other ingredients.

Frozen fruits are also an option, and tend to be a bit sweeter than fresh fruits. Add more yogurt or use whole milk if you want the smoothies thicker.

As always, enjoy, and see you next week.

I believe in the concept of charter schools. Saw some very good ones in inner cities that workedRead More very hard and made some progress. But I thinks for every charter school that opens a failing public school should close. Why perpetuate failure?

How long will we throw money at a problem that stems from the home and societal policies promotedRead More over the years? How many years and how much money is needed to fix the fact that so many children are growing up in households without fathers? If we give the schools all the money they want, will it fix the problem? I think not. It is not a school issue. It is a decaying society issue. I'm glad I'm old.

Penny, glad to see some (albeit few) smart people are working in Hartford for the people and notRead More just for their political careers! Since the large majority don't pay attention, it is important that we continue to educate people on what our representatives are doing in Hartford. Keep up the good work, and thanks for taking the time to write this article.
