Obituaries: Joseph M. Conlon

Conlon, 75, died on Oct. 28 in his home in Ellington.

Joseph M. Conlon, 75, died October 28, 2012, in his home in Ellington, Connecticut, after a brief illness.

Born in Yonkers, NY, in 1937 to Joseph M. and Mary E. Conlon, Joseph Jr. was raised in Bergenfield, NJ and Syracuse, NY before moving to Milton, MA for his high school years, during which he attended Boston College High School, graduating in 1954.

Joseph majored in English and graduated from Syracuse University in 1958, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

His professional career was spent primarily in marketing and advertising, working for Combustion Engineering, Bausch & Lomb and Alvin & Company, Inc. Joe was noted by friends and co-workers for his command of the English language – “sentences that parse,” he liked to say – and his logical approach to the work at hand.

Joe lived for a time on Islesford, Little Cranberry Island, Maine; and in Portland, Maine; as well as Rochester, NY, and many years in the Greater Hartford area.

Joseph is survived by his son Brian Conlon, of Luray, VA; his niece Kathleen Lake, of Waterville, ME; his nephew Eric Lake and his wife, Shelly, of North Yarmouth, ME; and his great nephew and niece John and Katherine Lake.
