Somers' Reaction to Crisis

Our children in Somers...

I'm VERY disappointed that the Somers school system did not/has not responded to the terrible events of last Friday in a more timely manner. Anxious parents waited over the weekend for either a call or email from the superintendent on his reaction and what might take place for the students on Monday. An email finally came out on Monday morning but it never mentioned (as other towns did) any action that might take place. No drills were mentioned, no police presence was mentioned (as other towns had.) I certainly know that the school system has the best interest of the children in mind, however, in light of the horrific events, communication was needed more than ever before. I rushed to check my granddaughter's folder to see if a letter might have been sent home but...nothing. It seems there will be a meeting Jan. 14 (?) but how about one sooner? A lot of parents are currently very upset with the lack of communication. We expect more from our officials. Good communication is critical especially at times like this.
