Support Your Local Business During These Difficult Times

Support your local business. Explore your surroundings. Check out the350project.net too.

I get several opportunity's each week to chat with fellow local business owners in addition to chatting with the customers who stop in my store each day. I get to hear both sides on a routine basis. Local businesses wish they had more local people support the local business instead of traveling to big box stores, malls, specialty stores and restaurant farther away. Some business owners feel the local townspeople don't support their local business until it's too late, when they are in financial crises and having a hard time, some even closing.

Many businesses are offering specials, promotions, deep discounts to compete with the larger malls and stores in order to attract the local shoppers which ultimately, dramatically reduces the profit for the store, making it difficult to make a profit on what we sell and, cover expenses. Some stores are discounting so deeply, just to attract new customers. On the other hand, I hear some local people who LOVE to support and shop local.

I think Ellington and Somers have much to offer but many people don't even know what businesses are out there. What can we do to attract customers and show what we offer? I often tell people to try this restaurant or stop over to this store, or that store. Word of mouth is powerful.  The readers should check out http://the350project.net/home.html to understand why its so important to support the local business which in turn, supports the local economy.

If you follow politics at all, the small business is the future and backbone of our economy.  Small business is becoming more and more the mainstay of the economy given larger company's have outsourced labor and manufacturing to other countries and taken jobs away from the United States.

Take a drive around your town and make a point to stop in to a new place that you've never been in every week and check it out! You'll have fun, be pleasantly surprised and love it! Just something to ponder...I'd be interested to see what people think about this subject.
