Special Father's Day BBQ at Somers Senior Center

Father's Day BBQ Celebration!

Once again the Somers Senior Center was bursting with laughter and fun. Just as the women were honored for Mother’s Day in May, the senior men were honored for Father’s Day on June 14th.

Thanks to the a delicious BBQ was enjoyed by everyone. The men were served first, for a change; and none of the women complained about having to wait her turn. Several senior women volunteered as “Queens of the Kitchen” to help the Center’s staff with setting up, serving, and cleaning up.  Each “Queen” wore a painted T-shirt bearing their title (shirts created by Phyllis Gwilliam). Although a father himself, Hussam Saada, the husband of the Center’s Director, volunteered as the Chief Chef at the BBQ.

At least 80 seniors enjoyed the pulled pork made by staff member, Linda Coleman, as well as the burgers, hot dogs, salads and desserts. No one went away hungry. The only question asked by the seniors was, “What will we be celebrating next?” The answer is the 4th of July and details regarding the event will appear in the Center’s July Newsletter.
