Ellington Winterfest 2013

On Friday, Dec. 6, the Ellington Singers will kick-off Ellington's tenth anniversary celebration of its annual Winterfest with a "Holiday Sing-A-Long" at Hall Memorial Library on Main Street. The festivities will continue on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the gazebo green between Rts. 140 and 286 (Main Street), beginning at 3:45 PM until 7:00 PM with a special Tree-Lighting Ceremony that includes a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and Frosty-the-Snowman, and many other guests and townwide activities. At 5:15 PM, the Ellington Winterfest will be capped by a spectacular "Torchlight Parade" down Main Street; a wondrous drive-through "Living Nativity" at 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM (both on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8), presented by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Maple Street; and, finally, a presentation, at 8:00 PM, of "It's a Wonderful Life", as a radio play, at Ellington High School, also on Maple Street.

Other offerings during the afternoon on Winterfest will include a community carol sing and "family-friendly" dinner at the Ellington Congregational Church; a card-making workshop, musical entertainment, free edibles, and the "Festival of Trees and Other Things" at Hall Memorial Library; and free cookies and hot chocolate at the Ellington Senior Center in the Church Street Plaza, courtesy of the Ellington Women's Club. The Nellie McKnight Museum wlil also be open from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM, featuring an exhibit regarding the historic Ellington Parish Train Band.
