It is that time of year for dogs

Dogs and the state.

June 1 begins the time to license your dogs. The state of CT requires all dogs must be licensed before the first of July, and be done every year for each dog 6 months or older.

As the Officer in the town of Somers, I have begun looking for unlicensed dogs, which usually means the dog is also unvaccinated. Any dog owner not in compliance with the state law is subject to a fine of $75 dollars for each unlicensed dog. There is also a $136 dollars fine for an unvaccinated animal (cat or dog). Please vaccinate your cats and dogs and license the dogs.

You must bring your current vaccination record (not the tag) to the town clerk of your town. The cost is as follows: a spayed or neutered dog is $8, otherwise the cost is $19. If the dog is not licensed by July 1 penalties begin to accrue.
